My Profile

Hello, my name is Jacqui.

I understand making the decision to seek support from a counsellor can feel daunting, even overwhelming.  You see, long before I became a counsellor I was a client too.  I remember wondering if talking to a stranger would even help, but I knew I needed to understand why I felt the way I did.  I would look through numerous counsellors' profiles trying to understand what being a humanistic, psychodynamic or behavioural therapist actually meant and, more importantly, which one would help me.  After much research and confusion, I made a decision to enrol on my first counselling course to find my own answer.

After four years of training, I understand the strengths of different therapeutic approaches but discovered the counsellor's role in establishing a good relationship with their client is the most important factor in a successful outcome of therapy. With this in mind, I offer all my clients what I really needed all those years ago. Someone who will be empathetic, non-judgmental and respectful.  My approach is to ensure clients feel safe, and heard, enabling them to explore their issues and concerns within a confidential space. As all clients are unique, I work as an Integrative Therapist. This enables me to draw upon one or more therapeutic approaches in order to tailor the therapy to meet the needs and goals of each client. I feel it is a privilege to support my clients through the most difficult times in their lives. To begin a journey with them, hearing their stories and experience, and supporting them to move forward with their lives. Just as I experienced many years before!

Experience & Qualifications.

Alongside my private practice, I work as a consultant within a mental health charity based in Lincoln. I have experience working with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, abuse, self-harm, trauma and, bereavement.

Whatever clients have experienced, or living through, has a profound effect on the way they feel about themselves and their relationships. My aim is to create a safe space where clients can feel heard and understood, perhaps for the first time.  Therefore, within an empathetic and non-judgemental environment clients can feel supported to make sense of their feelings, emotions and behaviour. Through this self-awareness, clients are supported to find healthier ways of managing and coping with their issues and concerns enabling them to move forward with their lives.

I have also used Inner Child therapy to support clients who have experienced trauma, abuse or neglect within their childhood. This approach is extremely helpful for clients who do not want to disclose details of their lived experiences, which can be re-traumatising, but rather we focus on the core beliefs they hold about themselves. These beliefs learnt in childhood, through growing up in unstable and difficult households can lead to limiting and mistaken beliefs about themselves. Inner child therapy allows clients to gently explore misconceptions of blame, shame and guilt which continue to exert their influence in adulthood and hold clients back. The process of Inner Child promotes self-compassion and self-acceptance and, clients express a new sense of personal freedom as they move forward with their lives.
